The Michigan Medicine Podiatry Research Fellowship Program provides clinical training in several different areas of related medical specialties, with an emphasis on research and patient populations at risk for limb loss. Our two-year program includes 18 months of a variety of clinical rotations, along with six months of dedicated time to conduct research in collaboration with internationally recognized research faculty.

Mission

Our mission is to train the next generation of leaders in academic podiatric medicine who will advance podiatric research, improve patient care, and share their expertise and what they’ve leaned with the next generation to follow them.
 

Program Aims

  • Prepare trainees to be leaders in podiatric academic medicine, who are uniquely trained in limb preservation, wound care, and complications of diabetes.
  • Deliver a well-rounded blend of clinical and research training, with a focus on academic medicine.
  • Support trainees in developing the necessary skills to practice evidence-based approaches to patient care and critically evaluate outcomes.
  • Provide the necessary infrastructure and mentorship needed to conduct clinical research.
  • Offer opportunities for trainees to present and publish their research.
  • Develop critical thinkers who can design and implement research to solve complex medical problems. 
  • Engage trainees in improving patient outcomes and initiating quality improvement across our processes.
  • Provide mentorship for post-fellowship career goals.
