Cores

The UMCGR includes an Administrative Core and four Biomedical Research Cores in support of the investigative activities of investigators. Our cores provide specialized technologies, equipment, reagents, and expertise to assist center members.

Administrative Core

The Administrative Core provides leadership to promote successful scientific interactions among faculty from 12 departments and five divisions. Additionally, the provision of bioinformatic expertise to UMCGR members from Drs. Justin Colacino and Merritt Gillilland, is coordinated through the Administrative Core. Learn more.

In Vivo Animal and Human Studies Core

The objective of the In Vivo Animal and Human Studies Core is to provide a venue for focusing human resources, facilities, new technology and equipment necessary for the in vivo study of humans and animals. Learn more.

Microbial Interactions Core

The overarching goal of the UMCGR Microbial Interactions Core is to catalyze research that will define causal relationships and mechanisms of action that mediate host-microbe interactions in health and disease. This new core is directed by Dr. Tom Schmidt, an experienced microbiologist who has studied the physiology and ecology of microbes in complex communities. Learn more.

Molecular Biology Core

The overarching objectives of the UMCGR Molecular Biology Core are to facilitate access to and advance development of molecular genetic tools to study gastrointestinal biology and disease. The Core is directed by Drs. Linda Samuelson and Jun Hee Lee, two experienced and established investigators with extensive expertise in the services provided by the Core. Learn more.

Protein Analysis Core

The objective of the Protein Analysis Core (PAC) is to connect investigators to histology, imaging and proteomic services. The core is directed by Drs. Asma Nusrat and Yatrik Shah, two experienced and established investigators with extensive expertise in the services provided by the core. Learn more.
