Patient Care

    

Members of the Division of Hospital Medicine fulfill several roles on the inpatient medical wards at the University of Michigan and VA Ann Arbor Health System. These include teaching on resident services, attending on non-resident services, and providing medical consultation and surgical co-management to patients on non-medicine services. Additionally, members of the Division also staff a number of service lines that have unique characteristics and patient focus areas such as renal transplant and hematologic malignancies.

Service Lines

Medical Consultation Service and Perioperative Clinic

Medical Short Stay Unit (MSSU)

Medicine Faculty Hospitalist (MFH) Service

Members of the Division of Hospital Medicine provide 24-7 attending coverage on our non-resident services. Learn more about the Medicine Faculty Hospitalist Service.

Medicine Hematology PA (MHP) Service

Patients with acute and chronic leukemias, lymphomas, and plasma cell dyscrasias are unique and require specialized care. The MHP service is a model for successful multi-disciplinary delivery of specialty care for these inpatients. Learn more about the Medicine Hematology PA Service.

Medicine Procedure Service (MPS)

The Medicine Procedure Service provides support for evaluation, consultation, and procedure performance at the bedside and in close collaboration with inpatient teams to maximize quality of care. Learn more about the Medicine Procedure Service.

Michigan Hospitalists at Chelsea (MHC) Service

The joint venture between Michigan Medicine and St. Joseph Mercy has fostered the integration of several Michigan Medicine services at St. Joe’s Mercy Chelsea (SJMC) Hospital, including the Michigan Hospitalists at Chelsea (MHC) service. The MHC service is staffed by Michigan Medicine hospitalists and provides care for select general medicine and heart failure patients. Michigan St. Joe's (MSJ) Service

A unique collaboration between Michigan Medicine and St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor (St. Joe’s) where select general medicine and geriatric patients are cared for by a Michigan Medicine staffed unit on the 4th floor of St. Joe’s. Learn more about the Michigan St. Joe's (MSJ) Service.

Renal Transplant Team (MFH-10)

Patients with a recent kidney transplant are cared for by a specialized multi-disciplinary team. Learn more about the renal transplant team.

Resident Teaching Services

The Department of Medicine has six inpatient General Medicine resident teams. Four of these teams are traditional General Medicine ward teams and include an attending, senior resident, two interns, and medical students in their third or fourth years of education. Veterans Affairs (VA) Ann Arbor Health System Service

The VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System provides care to Veterans in the tri-state area and is the primary teaching ground for medical students during their clinical clerkship. Learn more about the VA Ann Arbor Health System.
