Educational Resources

The Neuroradiology Division is active in all aspects of teaching.  Educational opportunities are available for medical students, residents, fellows, and practicing radiologists. Close collaboration with the Departments of Neurosurgery, Neurology, Otolaryngology, and Radiation Oncology provides a stimulating collegial atmosphere with over 20 multidisciplinary conferences per week. These conferences include teaching conferences, clinical pathologic correlation conferences, tumor boards and other clinical working conferences. The Division has published numerous textbooks on the topics of Adult Neuroradiology, Pediatric Neuroradiology, and Head and Neck Radiology.

Medical Student Education

The Division of Neuroradiology at the University of Michigan offers graded experience for medical students in neuroradiology. For the more junior medical students, week-long rotations are provided as part of the general radiology elective.  This is concentrated on observational experience at the clinical diagnostic workstations as part of the neuroradiology team.

For the more senior students, a specialized month-long neuroradiology elective is offered.  This intensive elective allows students with special interest in neuroradiology to effectively temporarily join our division, participating in all neuroradiology disciples including image acquisition, diagnosis, and interventional therapeutics.  Extra-credit opportunities in scientific composition are offered, with a number of these works ultimately published in scientific journals. To maximize experience, this elective is restricted to a maximum of two students per period.

Questions regarding these medical student educational activities should be directed to Gaurang Shah, M.D., Director of Medical Student Education in Neuroradiology, at: [email protected]

Practicing Radiologists Observership

The Neuroradiology Division offers observership positions for both a short term and long term, which allows practicing radiologists to observe our clinical workday and attend our various teaching conferences.  There is a nominal charge for this experience. The observers would be eligible for CME credits for attending the various internal educational and interdisciplinary conferences if they are pre-registered with the Univeristy of Michigan CME office prior to commencement of the observership. Please contact Ellen Hoeffner, MD if you are interested in participating.

Continuing Medical Education

All members of the faculty participate in regional, national and international CME courses. The faculty have been invited to speak in over 500 CME or society refresher courses.
