Biography
Dr. Pernicano was born and raised in Dearborn, Michigan. He attended the University of Michigan for both his undergraduate and medical degrees, which he received in 1981 and 1984. He completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan in 1988 and a fellowship in Cross-Sectional Imaging also at Beaumont in 1989.
Dr. Pernicano joined the University of Michigan faculty in 1989 and accepted a joint appointment at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System in 1990. Dr. Pernicano retired from the VA in 2022 but continues to work at the University. Dr. Pernicano’s primary focus and interest is thoracic imaging, particularly plain films and CT.
Dr. Pernicano is certified by the American Board of Radiology and is a member of the Society of Thoracic Radiology, the Association of University Radiologists, the Radiological Society of North America, the American Roentgen Ray Society, the American College of Radiology, and the Michigan Radiological Society.
Dr. Pernicano serves on the Michigan Radiological Society Board of Trustees as a Councilor and is the official photographer for the Michigan Radiological Society. Dr. Pernicano was the President of the Michigan Radiological Society from 2019-2020 and is currently the Secretary of the Michigan Radiological Society Foundation Board of Directors. Dr. Pernicano became a Fellow of the American College of Radiology in 2009.
Dr. Pernicano enjoys teaching both medical students and residents. He has given numerous lectures and conferences to these groups, as well as being a speaker at many CME courses.
