David came to the University of Michigan in 1986 as Director of the Division of Nuclear Medicine. He was instrumental in assuring the smooth transition of the division from Internal Medicine to Radiology in 2000. He continued as an active investigator until his retirement in 2011.
Dr. Kuhl was an outstanding investigator. He was the first to do cross sectional imaging using radionuclides, and many feel he was deserving of the Nobel Prize for his work. He received the Japan Prize in 2009. He was a kind and thoughtful man and will be missed.
The department will continue to honor him through the David E. Kuhl Collegiate Professorship. Click below to see more information about his achievements and career.
