Biography

Dr. Mendiratta-Lala was raised in Bingham Farms Michigan and graduated junior AOA from Wayne State University School of Medicine. She completed her Diagnostic Radiology residence training and served as chief resident at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit Michigan. She was the first and only radiology trainee to ever win the Peter Coggan Outstanding Trainee Award. She completed a fellowship in Abdominal Imaging with a focus on Cross-Sectional Interventional Radiology with an emphasis on liver directed therapies at Beth Israel Deaconess Harvard Hospital in Boston Massachusetts. She began her career at Henry Ford Hospital and helped pioneer the tumor ablation program. She joined the University of Michigan abdominal radiology division in 2015. She has published numerous peer-reviewed papers and has received funding for research in hepatobiliary imaging and intervention, with a focus on liver cancer treatment response. She has been involved in numerous multidisciplinary national and international studies. She serves as the chair of science for the Society of Advanced Body Imaging and chair of additional committees for the Society of Abdominal Radiology, American College of Radiology and Society of Interventional Radiology. Through her research she pioneered a new treatment response algorithm for liver cancer treated with radiation therapy. She has been involved in clinical translation of histotripsy, a new ablation technology for liver cancer treatment. She has been involved since the start of the pre-clinical liver research and helped with the translation to human therapy and FDA approval. She currently has treated the most patients in the world and will be leading patient treatment and clinical trials at the University of Michigan.
