Ronald G. Grifka, M.D., named president of UM Health-West

Ronald Grifka, MD

Ronald G. Grifka, M.D., has been named president of University of Michigan Health-West, effective Sept. 9.

Grifka has been chief medical officer for UM Health-West since 2019 and is widely respected for his commitment to quality and safety, his relationship with the medical staff, and his visibility and communication with patients and staff. His leadership will provide a smooth transition and be important to continuing the positive momentum that has been established clinically, operationally and in the culture at UM Health-West.

Grifka has been part of Michigan Medicine since 2012 as a professor of pediatrics. Prior to his role as CMO, he was the associate medical director of strategic planning and business development for Michigan Medicine and was one of the first clinicians from Ann Arbor to expand their clinical practice to West Michigan. Grifka started a pediatric cardiology clinic at UM Health-West in 2016 and continues to see patients today.

In his role as CMO, Grifka has played a key role in the growth of clinical programs and service lines at UM Health-West and was heavily involved in launching the open heart surgery program last year. He has served on the UM Health-West Board of Directors since 2016 and the board’s finance committee since 2017.

Grifka received his undergraduate and medical school degrees from Wayne State University. He completed his pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, followed by fellowships in pediatric cardiology and interventional cardiac catheterization at Texas Children's Hospital, where he became the associate chief of cardiology and held the Mullins endowed chair as director of the cardiac catheterization laboratories.

Please congratulate Grifka on his new role!
