On December 6, 2023, we hosted Mind Matters - Beyond Borders, a Michigan Medicine livestream with two expert psychiatrists who spoke about their experiences with mental health and treating mental illnesses in Western Africa.
We heard from Frances Adiukwu, M.D., and Heidi Burns, M.D., and their experiences as psychiatrists in Nigeria and Ghana. The two speakers discussed mental health care, stigma, family dynamics, and the unique challenges and successes of the mental health landscape in Western Africa.
