Families and Visitors

Visiting

We believe in putting the needs of our patients and their families first. Any family member who needs to visit at a time outside of regular visiting hours should first call the nursing station at 734-936-4950, and we will try to accommodate special needs or circumstances. Patients have the right to refuse visitors or refuse phone calls if they wish – see “Confidentiality and safety” for more information.

When you visit 9C, you will be asked for the patient’s name and room or phone number. Children brought to the unit must be carefully supervised. We ask that visitors be limited to a reasonable number at a time. Please check our list of permitted and prohibited items before bringing any items to patients. Any items brought for a patient will be reviewed by the nursing staff.

Visiting Hours

Visiting hours are limited to 2 adults (18 years or older) per patient at once.

9C Adult Inpatient Psychiatry Unit and Nyman Family Unit for Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Wellness

  • Monday - Friday: 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm
  • Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 12:00 pm until 8:00 pm
  • *For anyone under the age of 18, special arrangements for visitation must be made with the Treatment Team. Visitors need to know the patient’s room number to be allowed on the unit.

The Nyman Unit works to support flexible visitation for the admitted minor patients and their families. The hours above are preferred, in order to promote the patient’s ability to attend group programming during the day. Please check with your child’s social worker or charge nurse for any particular needs which vary from these hours.

Phone calls

Each patient bed has a telephone with a dedicated phone number so that patients may place outgoing calls and so that others can reach patients directly during their stay in the hospital. You may also call the 9C desk at 734-936-4950 and ask to be transferred to the patient’s phone. If you call the desk you will be asked for the patient’s room number or phone number.

Telephone hours are 8:00 am to 10:00 pm for incoming calls.

Incoming and outgoing mail

Mail is distributed to patients by the unit clerk, who can also assist patients who wish to mail something from the unit. When addressing mail to patients on the unit, please include their room number in the address.
