Training

We offer several training opportunities to medical students, medical residents, and predoctoral clinical psychology students.

There is a lack of specialized training in the area of evidenced-based treatment for bipolar spectrum disorders. Recognizing this problem, one of the goals of the Bipolar Clinic has been to assist in training the next generation of professionals. We offer several training opportunities to medical students, medical residents, and predoctoral clinical psychology students.

Psychiatry Residents

During the third year of residency (PGY-3), psychiatry residents have the opportunity to become part of the Bipolar Clinic as a specialty outpatient rotation. Under the supervision of full-time faculty, residents will have the opportunity to engage in consultation and evaluation of new patients as well as short-term medication management of patients appropriate to remain in the clinic. Residents get experience with case presentation, case formulation, and working with an interdisciplinary team to create personalized treatment plans. In addition, during weekly team meetings, residents will receive didactic training relevant to psychotherapy for bipolar disorder, differential diagnosis, and common comorbidities.
