Kathryn Wataha, M.D., Ph.D.

Resident
Class of 2027

Biography

I attended UM for both my MD and my PhD in History, and I am thrilled to be completing my residency training in psychiatry here!  The University of Michigan has always been a truly extraordinary place to pursue interdisciplinary scholarship and thinking - an undertaking I believe to be a vibrant and important part of practicing psychiatry.  Across the board, academic training at the University of Michigan is rigorous, but it's also a lot of fun! I knew after working with psychiatry residents and attendings here that the department was a great fit for me. UM psychiatry facilitates a professional culture that emphasizes strong patient advocacy, work/life balance, evidence-based medicine, and truly excellent clinical training -- all components I sought out in a program.

You can usually find me running, reading, or playing outside with family and friends. A Colorado girl at heart, I never dreamt I'd spent so much time in the Midwest, nor build such an expansive and rich community here. Ann Arbor is pure magic all year round (with the exception of January and February -- those are suboptimal but survive-able.) From apple picking and cider donut-eating in the fall to building snowmen in the winter to Art Fair in the summer -- my family and I absolutely LOVE it here and we are literally always out doing something. If you like big cities, Detroit is a quick drive away and has so much to offer in terms of art, theatre, live music, food, and professional sporting events. There's never a dull moment!
