Jenna Walters

ABCD Study Team

What is your name? Where were you born? Where did you go to college?

My name is Jenna Walters and I’m originally from the Grand Rapids, MI area.  I completed my Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Eastern Michigan University with minors in Human Biology and Human Sexuality. Currently, I am working on my Masters of Social Work with a focus on interpersonal practice here at the UofM!

What interests you about the ABCD Study/research?

I’ve had a lot of experience working with younger children, but I developed a passion for adolescents during my time as a Mental Health Technician and while completing my Senior Thesis in undergrad. The ABCD Study seemed like a great opportunity to gain more experience working with adolescents and to learn more about patterns in adolescent cognitive development and substance use.

How long have you worked in the department and what does your work focus on / what area do you work in? I started as a Research Assistant with the ABCD Study in May of 2023!

What are your plans after ABCD (grad school, etc.)

I plan to start working towards licensure so that I can eventually practice therapy as a clinical social worker.

Fun fact about yourself! What are your hobbies?

A fun fact about me is that I have never broken a bone! I spend my free time going for walks and hikes, spending time with friends, bird watching, and responding to emails.

Do you have any pets?

I currently don’t have any pets of my own, but I would love to have some someday!

What’s your favorite food or restaurant?

My current favorite is the cabbage and mushroom dumplings from Yee Siang in Ypsi. But I also am a big fan of sushi and tacos!
