Biography

Dr. Schwenk was the second chair of the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Michigan, starting in 1988. He was also a professor of medical education and associate director of the U-M Depression Center. He has served as the vice chair of the Faculty Group Practice Board of Directors for the U-M Health System and saw patients Briarwood Family Medicine. His research focused on mental illness in primary care, difficult physician-patient relationships, family function and illness, nutritional supplements, and psychogenic drug use in athletes. Dr. Schwenk was named the inaugural George A. Dean, M.D. Chair of Family Medicine in 2007. 

In 2011, we was named VP of Health Sciences and Dean at the University of Nevada School of Medicine in Reno. He retired from this role in 2021 and currently resides in Park City, Utah.
