Weight Loss Myths Perpetuate Obesity Problem

Weight loss myths persist despite being scientifically proven false. These myths can significantly affect a person’s ability to lose weight and a physician’s recommendation to their patients.

Tammy Chang, M.D., M.P.H., M.S., assistant professor, and Angie Wang, M.D., recently graduated HOIII, discussed these issues in their article ,”Sex and other myths about weight loss,” in The Conversation.

Drs. Chang and Wang state “educating and empowering overweight patients is only one part of the solution. Informing those - friends, family, and also the media - who influence overweight patients is also important if we want to change the trajectory of obesity in the U.S.”
