Biography

Dr. Werner is an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. He previously served as the Chief of the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation service at the Ann Arbor VA Medical Center. He also had a faculty appointment in Occupational Medicine within the School of Public Health and in the Center for Ergonomics within Industrial and Operations Engineering. He is a 1983 graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and completed his PM&R residency at the University of Michigan Medical Center. He completed a research fellowship sponsored through NIDRR in 1991.

Dr. Werner’s interests include electromyography, pain management and industrial rehabilitation. Dr. Werner is the Co-Director of the Ann Arbor VA Chronic Pain Clinic and Pain Management Fellowship program. He has over 70 publications in peer reviewed journals and has been successful in receiving grant funding from several sources including NIH, CDC, NIOSH, UAW-GM Health and Safety, Johns Hopkins University Center for VDT and Health Research and the US Postal Service. Dr Werner has received awards for research writing from the Association of Academic Physiatrists, the American Academy of PM&R and the American College Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Dr. Werner has served on the Editorial Board for Archives of PM&R, Muscle and Nerve, Journal of Occupational Rehabilitation and Topics in Stroke Rehabilitation.
