Newly Expanded 24-bed Inpatient Rehab Unit Opens Sept 15, 2020

Michigan Medicine is expanding the reach of its Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation expertise through the organization’s joint venture hospital partnership with St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea (SJMC). On Sept.15, 2020, we opened an expanded Inpatient Rehabilitation unit which will increase from an initial six beds to 24 beds. Combined with the transitioning of University Hospital’s inpatient rehabilitation facility (IRF) on 6A from 32 to 16 beds, the partnership with SJMC will result in a total of 40 Inpatient Rehab beds between the two locations. PM&R joins other Michigan Medicine programs and services like family medicine, surgery and urology, now providing patient care at SJMC as part of the organization’s strategic plan to increase capacity for higher acuity patients on the main medical campus and optimize sites of care for all Michigan Medicine patients.
