The adults with spina bifida had about twice the risk of chronic kidney disease compared to adults without spina bifida. This work is part of growing body of research on adults with pediatric onset disabilities and their risk of chronic disease secondary to physiologic and lifestyle factors. Dr. Pruente staffs the multidisiciplinary spina bifida clinic for children, and Dr. Schmidt is working with Urology to develop a clinic for adults with spina bifida.
