Dr. Santiago Schell becomes Dean of the College of Science at the University of Notre Dame

While difficult to see a colleague leave, we wish Dr. Santiago Schnell the best as he takes on his new role as the William K. Warren Foundation Dean of the College of Science at the University of Notre Dame.  Santiago was a faculty member at the University of Michigan for 13 years and has acted as chair of the Department of Molecular & Integrative Physiology (MIP) in the Medical School since August 2017, serving first as interim until his full appointment earlier this year. During his time leading the largest basic science department in Michigan Medicine, he helped MIP maintain its status as the top National Institutes of Health-funded physiology department in the nation.  As a faculty member and chair, Santiago led a successful research laboratory and was dedicated in his service to the department and the broader scientific community.  His many contributions include expanding the undergraduate research programs in MIP, attracting new primary and joint faculty to the department,  increasing philanthropic support for our research and educational missions, and contributing to the implementation of diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the medical school.    While we are sad to see him leave, he will continue to be a member of the MIP family, and we look forward to seeing all his future accomplishments at Notre Dame.
