Postdoctoral Training

MIP maintains a very active postdoctoral training association (MIPPA), directed by Dr. Mike Sutton. MIPPA organizes training programs in areas useful to postdoctoral trainees, such as successful manuscript writing techniques, finding funding for your research, how to run a lab, secrets of job search, how to apply for jobs, and how to prepare for job interviews.

MIPPA also organizes a monthly seminar series in which speakers from diverse biomedical careers provide career development advice. MIPPA hosts the Annual MIP Postdoc Symposium, which highlights the work of postdoctoral trainees.

MIPPA offers a unique opportunity for postdocs in the department to direct, organize, and teach an upper undergraduate/Master’s level course on state-of-art molecular biology and physiological approaches in research.

MIPPA works closely with the Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research (MICHR) and all postdocs are encouraged to take advantage of their grant-writing course.
