The Jane S. Schultz, Ph.D. Education Fund supports second-year Ph.D. student attendance at the annual American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) meeting, which complements our scientific curriculum, provides career development opportunities, and builds collegiality among students. It’s made possible by the generosity of the Schulz family and ongoing donor support.

The ASHG conference is a 7,000 to 8,000 person meeting that attracts the brightest minds in genetic research and education. Attendance at ASHG is so important for the genetics community, as it gives us the critical opportunity to come together to discuss the most cutting-edge research in the field and to cultivate the young minds that are interested in genetics.

At the meeting, students are paired up with faculty or post-doctoral fellows who help them navigate ASHG and the thousands of opportunities it has to offer in a way that best serves their interests. The students attend dynamic sessions, networking opportunities with alumni, and professional development events. Having this experience as a second-year Ph.D. student can dramatically impact the student’s knowledge, confidence, and experience, giving them an advanced understanding that other students at different institutions might not have.

With your support this Giving Blueday, we can continue to provide this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to our students. Make a gift to the Jane S. Schulze Education Fund today!

Please Note: Gifts to endowed funds will be administered as permanent endowment under Michigan law and University policies; excess distributions may be added to the principal for reinvestment or used later for the purpose(s) for which the fund was established.

What is Giving Blueday?

On Giving Blueday, the University of Michigan community bands together to support numerous projects campus-wide that depend on philanthropic contributions. Giving Blueday is an incredible opportunity to make a difference in thousands of lives and impact the future of our world. This year, Giving Blueday takes place on March 13, 2024 and it’s the 10th anniversary of this event.

Michigan Medicine programs are taking part and we will launch our own promotional campaign to build awareness and encourage donations. From midnight through 11:59 p.m. EST on March 13, 2024, Michigan Medicine will invite supporters to make donations to areas that they’re passionate about. With social media challenges and real-time updates throughout the day, we’ll encourage donors, friends, faculty, staff, and other supporters to be a Victor and move medicine forward.

Giving Blueday is a day for everyone who loves Michigan Medicine to join together to support medical students, transform research, and shape health care around the world.
