Biography
Chevaz Thomas is an MD student at the University of Michigan Medical School (UMMS). In addition, he is an incoming student with the Health Infrastructures and Learning Systems (HILS) Online MS Program. He hails from Brooklyn, NY as well as Montego Bay, Jamaica. Chevaz earned a BS in Biology from Morehouse College in 2015. Following undergraduate graduation, he was a NIH Clinical Postbaccalaureate Research Fellow within The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, studying neurodegenerative disorders. He has previously conducted research through SCTRP with Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital, as well as medical education research within Michigan Medicine.
As a member of UMMS, he has been a Michigan Interdisciplinary Medical Scholar, facilitating programming to strengthen relationships between Michigan professional and graduate students. He has also been a mentor with Doctors of Tomorrow, working with students from Cass Technical High School in Detroit. He served on the Senior Leadership team for the Future Physicians Summit, an initiative which brought middle and high school students from the Metro-Detroit area to UMMS for clinical simulations, workshops, and college preparation. He also was a Graduate School Partner through the Success Connects Program, mentoring undergraduate students interested in careers within the healthcare field. Currently, he is serving on the UMMS Student Diversity Council Outreach Committee for Mentorship and Pipeline Programs.
In his free time, Chevaz enjoys fitness, watching basketball (is a die-hard Knicks fan), trying new restaurants, and spending quality time with friends and family.
