Biography

Matt has an MS in Chemical Biology of Cancer from the University of Michigan as well as a Graduate Certificate in Precision Health. He graduated from UM with a BS in Neuroscience in 2018. Matt has previously worked for Precision Health and the Department of Anesthesiology at Michigan Medicine in clinical research; throughout his graduate studies he has served as graduate student instructor (GSI) and graduate student mentor (GSM) for an introductory biology course and GSI for a pedagogy and language course for incoming international GSIs. His academic and professional interests within HILS lie in drug discovery and development, as well as in medical education, with aims to make both more equitable and values centered. In 2021, Matt was awarded a Fulbright grant to Italy, where he taught English at an Italian high school. After graduating with a HILS MS, Matt will apply to medical school with the goal of using his experiences in the program to enact positive change on the US healthcare system. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, learning Italian, and exploring Michigan.
