What to do about and with AI to enhance medical education and clinical simulation: use cases from Surgery and Emergency Medicine

Dr. Popov's group primarily solves research problems in the field of medical education and focuses on the ways in which healthcare professionals collaborate, coordinate, and influence one another to learn and/or perform together, usually in technology-rich learning or clinical environments. Our work is situated at the intersection of Learning Sciences, Artificial Intelligence, and eXtended Reality. This presentation will look at two studies.

The first study will demonstrate the development of a VR platform for Cardiac Arrest Resuscitation training and a multimodal debriefing system to enhance feedback quality, and the second study will demo Surgment, which is an AI-enhanced system that helps expert surgeons create exercises with feedback based on surgery recordings
