Two collaborating researchers at Deakin University in Australia win best presentation and poster awards using Prechter Program data.

Samantha Russell, Ph.D., at the Society for Mental Health Research Conference in Australia

Also, I wanted to let you know that last week I presented this manuscript as a rapid oral presentation at the Society for Mental Health Research Conference (SMHR) here in Australia, and it won the best rapid presentation! AND Anna’s work on Interpersonal Trauma and Depression Severity Among Individuals With Bipolar Disorder: Findings From the Prechter Longitudinal Study of Bipolar Disorder won best poster!
People with bipolar disorder often experience trauma or post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which can affect their moods, sleep, and quality of life. Collaborating researchers at Deakin University, Anna Wrobel, Ph.D., and Samantha Russell, Ph.D., have been studying this relationship using data from the Prechter Longitudinal Study of Bipolar Disorder. Findings were recently presented in Australia at the Society for Mental Health Conference (SMHR). Dr. Russell won best rapid oral presentation for the manuscript, Trauma and comorbid post-traumatic stress disorder in people with bipolar disorder participating in the Heinz C. Prechter Longitudinal Study, which examines how the experience of PTSD can affect people with bipolar disorder. Dr. Wrobel won the best poster presentation with her poster, Trauma and comorbid post-traumatic stress disorder in people with bipolar disorder participating in the Heinz C. Prechter Longitudinal Study. Dr. Wrobel's work highlighted that the inclusion of trauma assessment in people with bipolar disorder would allow for trauma focused therapies, which could be beneficial in treatment. Furthermore, social relationships and connections have been an important topic in Drs. Russell and Wrobel's research, emphasizing that social support might play a role in maintaining wellbeing for people with bipolar disorder and trauma or PTSD.

Dr. Russell's manuscript, Trauma and comorbid post-traumatic stress disorder in people with bipolar disorder participating in the Heinz C. Prechter Longitudinal Study, has not yet been published.
