Along with various other UM officials (including Medical School Senior Associate Dean Joseph Kolars), President Schlissel spent several hours with investigators from the Peking University Health Science Center (PUHSC), the institutional partner of the University of Michigan's Joint Institute for Translational and Clinical Research. In addition, the delegation visited Taiwan for several days to explore current and future collaborations. Taiwanese institutions visited in this portion of trip included: Academia Sinica, National Taiwan University, Chang-Gung University, and the National Health Research Institute.

Three current UMMS students had an opportunity to meet the President while he was in Beijing. Jiaxin Huang, Mary Guan, and Jeremy Balch have been spending the summer at PUHSC as part of the Global REACH faculty-led experience program (and are shown at right with President Schlissel and Dr. Joe Kolars). They are working under the mentorship of Dr. Anna Lok (UM) and Professor Lai Wei (PUHSC) on a project that compares US/China care of patients with liver diseases.
