Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center Grant Renewed for Another 5 Years

We are pleased to announce that the Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center grant is renewed for another 5 years in the amount of $905,301.

The grant has been renewed by the National Institute on Aging and will start the new cycle on July 1. The total amount of the grant for all 5 years is $4,526,505.

The U-M Pepper Center fosters collaborative multidisciplinary research to integrate basic science, clinical science, and health services research relevant to the health care problems of older adults. The overall goal of the UM Pepper Center is to enhance the ability of older people to live independently by maintaining activities of daily living and to function well by maintaining mobility and levels of physical activity. The OAIC focus for this renewal is to support research that will improve understanding of how metabolic factors and inflammation interact with age-related diseases and comorbidities to determine key health outcomes related to mobility and functional status through Resource Cores that support and assist investigator-initiated projects, a Research Career Development Core to strengthen the UM environment for training of future academic leaders in geriatrics and aging and a Pilot and Exploratory Studies Core to attract UM junior faculty, as well as selected senior faculty not previously involved in aging research, to develop new research projects.
