Highlights from the 2023 Neuroscience Conference

The University of Michigan's 2023 Neuroscience Conference is officially in the books.

Last week, 250+ faculty, postdocs, students, and staff gathered to celebrate neuroscience at U-M with a poster session, art show, mentoring sessions, networking, and a full slate of fascinating scientific talks.

MNI Affiliate faculty members Michael Roberts (Otolaryngology, Molecular & Integrative Physiology), Catherine Kaczorowski (Neurology), Gideon Rothschild (Psychology, Otolaryngology), Swathi Yadlapalli (Cell & Developmental Biology) and Srijan Sen (Psychiatry) presented on their current neuroscience studies. Each presentation was met with an active and engaged audience and lively Q&A sessions as time permitted.

Memorable moments from the conference include:

  • Keynote speaker Ravi Allada (Northwestern University) presenting his talk, E pluribus MNI,
  • NGP students performing at the evening reception,
  • Poster winners Yoani Herrera (NGP Student, Birdsong Lab) and runner-up Tyler Thenstedt (Undergraduate Research Assistant, Parent Lab) announced,
  • Amanda Iglesias (Flagel Lab) and Katie Bonefas (Iwase Lab) presented with Student Innovator Awards, and
  • Eight trainee data blitz presentations masterfully moderated by Grad Student Marcel Elkouri and featuring Noam Gannot (Peng Li Lab), Marie Walicki (Birdsong Lab), Caroline Hsieh (Barmada Lab) Emily Peirent (Bielas Lab), Nathaniel Kinsky (Diba Lab), Princess Felix (Flagel Lab), Isha Verma (Parent Lab), and Viktoria Kirschnerova (Kwan Lab)

Stay tuned for a "save the date" for the 2024 conference hosted by MNI, NGP, and the U-M Neuroscience Innovators.
