Biography

Sikandar Raza is a current integrated cardiothoracic surgery resident at the University of Michigan. He was born and raised in Lahore, Pakistan and moved to the US in 2010 with his family. He completed his undergraduate studies at Vanderbilt University in Nashville where he double-majored in Chemistry and Neuroscience, graduating with honors. He completed his medical school training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) where he excelled not only in academics graduating Alpha Omega Alpha, conducted xenotransplantation research, but also led several community organizations (ie local free clinic). For his commitment to serving others and his local community through these organizations and outcomes research, Sikandar was awarded the Sara Crews Finley Award and Scholarship during his final two years of medical school.

Sikandar continues to value mentorship and teaching. He currently serves as the medical student liaison for the I6 program and has helped guide and mentor several medical students in medical school and beyond in their pursuit of medicine and surgical residency.

Areas of Interest

Clinical Interest
Sikandar’s clinical interests include adult cardiac surgery, specifically aortic pathology, valvular heart disease, and transplantation.

Research Interest
Sikandar’s research interests include outcomes research related to health disparities and inequity, medical device development and innovation, global surgical outcomes, and surgical education and mentorship.
