Biography
Dr. Moon received his bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and his Ph.D. from Rice University, and he completed his postdoctoral training at MIT. Dr. Moon has published over 120 research articles, including those published in Nature Materials, Nature Medicine, Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Biomedical Engineering, and Science Translational Medicine. He has 25 pending/approved U.S. and international patent applications, and his novel nano-vaccine delivery technologies have led to 3 new start-up companies. Dr. Moon is a fellow of BMES, AIBME, and CRS, and his contributions to the field has been recognized with numerous awards, including NSF CAREER Award, AAPS Emerging Leader Award, and CRS Samyang Award.
Research Interests
Dr. Moon's laboratory develops new vaccines, immunotherapies, and gut microbiome-targeted therapeutics against cancer and autoimmune diseases.
Research Opportunities for Rotating Students
The Moon Lab at the University of Michigan is developing new immunotherapies and vaccines at the interface of immunology, pharmaceutics, and engineering. We design new drug delivery systems for improving immune functions in the context of cancer, autoimmune diseases, and the gut microbiome. Our translational immunoengineering research utilizes tools of nanotechnology, biomaterials, drug delivery, tissue engineering, and advanced high-throughput methods to detect and improve immune functions.
