Timothy M. Johnson, M.D., appointed senior associate dean for clinical affairs

He also will serve the clinical enterprise as executive director of the University of Michigan Medical Group

Timothy M. Johnson, M.D.

Timothy M. Johnson, M.D., has been appointed senior associate dean for clinical affairs in the Medical School and executive director of the University of Michigan Medical Group (UMMG), effective Jan. 1, 2017.

As the leader of UMMG, Johnson will be responsible for ambulatory care operations, population health management programs, eHealth initiatives, physician workforce planning and more. He also will provide the leadership to create synergies between the U-M’s clinical enterprise and academic mission.

Johnson is the Lewis and Lillian Becker Professor of Dermatology, and a professor of dermatology, otolaryngology-head and neck surgery, and surgery. Since he joined the U-M faculty in 1990, he has served as the director of the Multidisciplinary Melanoma Program, division chief of Cutaneous Surgery and Oncology, Mohs Ambulatory Care Unit director, and training director of the ACGME fellowship in micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology.

He has developed several unique skin cancer programs across 25 departments, divisions, service lines and centers, which consistently are rated the highest in patient satisfaction, employee engagement, and patient and referring physician access.

An investigator on grants, clinical trials, and numerous research activities, Johnson has focused his research on integration of data and specimens with experimental models to identify molecular mechanisms of disease, as well as development of evidence-based strategies for better treatment.
