Sally A. Camper, Ph.D., former chair of Human Genetics, to receive Power Award
The honor is bestowed annually on individuals who demonstrate scholarship, leadership, and support of women faculty
Sally A. Camper, Ph.D., a professor of human genetics and internal medicine in the Medical School, is one three recipients of the Sarah Goddard Power Award for 2016.
The ceremony for the 32nd annual awards — presented to individuals across the University of Michigan campus who demonstrate scholarship, leadership, and support of women faculty — will take place at 4 p.m. Feb. 10 in the Michigan League’s Henderson Room. The U-M Academic Women's Caucus sponsors the Power Award, which was established in memory of Sarah Goddard Power, a former regent who was a strong advocate for women within the University.
Camper, who chaired the Department of Human Genetics for 11 years before stepping down at the end of 2015, is an internationally recognized researcher in the field of inherited birth defects. She has supported and mentored women at all levels.
A pioneer in the use of transgenic mice, Camper is recognized for her contributions to basic research on the genetics of pituitary disorders, hearing and skeletal development. As founder of the Transgenic Animal Model Core at the U-M, Camper has improved the ability of a large number of researchers to carry out cutting-edge research on the genetic basis of disease.
