Deborah R. Berman, M.D., has been appointed assistant dean for admissions in the Medical School, effective June 30, 2023. She has served as interim assistant dean for admissions since July 2021.
Berman has demonstrated a strong commitment to recruiting talented and diverse students who will graduate from the U-M Medical School and go on to provide outstanding patient care and become leaders in health care and biomedicine.
Prior to serving as interim assistant dean for admissions, Dr. Berman was a member of the Admissions Executive Committee. She also has served as faculty director of the M-Home learning community since 2020 and was faculty advisor for the M-Response Corps during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a professor of obstetrics and gynecology in the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine, her clinical practice is focused on prenatal diagnosis of fetal abnormalities, fetal therapy and in utero fetal surgery. She is director of the Antepartum Wellness Program at the U-M Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital.
Berman earned her undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Michigan, and she completed residency in obstetrics and gynecology and a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at Michigan Medicine. She was promoted to clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology in 2021.
