Dean’s Frontier Seminar on Nov. 8 will examine opioid epidemic

The seminars showcase and highlight innovations in basic science, translational and clinical research achieved by U-M faculty

Michigan Medicine will host a Dean’s Frontier Seminar on the opioid epidemic from 4-5 p.m. Nov. 8 in the Danto Auditorium in the Frankel Cardiovascular Center. A reception will follow.

John R. Traynor, Ph.D., the Edward F. Domino Research Professor and associate chair in the Department of Pharmacology, will moderate the seminar. He will give an overview of the initiatives at the University of Michigan, in both the basic and clinical sciences, that have been implemented to counter this growing epidemic.

Associate Professor of Anesthesiology Chad M. Brummett, M.D., will describe how new chronic opioid use and diversion of opioid medications occurs. Associate Professor of Psychiatry Amy Bohnert, Ph.D., will discuss her work on how to reduce the risk of overdose and other harms among individuals using prescription opioids.
