A former surgeon general, several surgeons-to-be, and surgeons on the faculty will be in attendance May 11 when the University of Michigan Medical School graduates its 168th class of doctors during its annual Commencement ceremony in Hill Auditorium.
Vivek H. Murthy, M.D., MBA, the 19th U.S. Surgeon General of the United States who served from 2014-17, will be the featured speaker. Graduating senior Erika Yanna Kokkinos will deliver remarks on behalf of the Class of 2018. Her speech is entitled, “I Apologize in Advance.”
Executive Vice Dean for Academic Affairs Carol R. Bradford, M.D., will preside over the ceremony. Senior Associate Dean for Education and Global Initiatives Joseph C. Kolars, M.D., will present awards to several faculty and students.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs and Dean of the Medical School Marschall S. Runge, M.D., Ph.D., will administer the Hippocratic Oath.
