2015 Dean’s Awards honoree: Maya M. Hammoud, M.D.
Upon discovering a passion for teaching, the professor of obstetrics and gynecology and learning health sciences began changing students’ lives

While her fellow faculty had glowing things to say about Maya M. Hammoud, M.D., in nominating her for the Kaiser Permanente Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching, the truly transformative nature of her teaching is best captured by the students she has mentored during 15 years as a faculty member in Obstetrics and Gynecology:
“I was inspired by her attitude, energy, and profound love of her job as a women’s health care provider and medical educator,” wrote one student. Another said: “Clinic with Dr. Hammoud was probably my most valuable learning experience as an M3 so far.”
The true power of her teaching is reflected in the comments of students who set or changed their course based on their experiences with her: “Dr. Hammoud has undoubtedly changed the trajectory of my life, both personally and professionally,” and “Her passion for the profession is contagious and contributed to my decision to pursue Ob/Gyn.”
Hammoud received the 2015 Kaiser Permanente Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching on Nov. 4 at the annual Faculty and Staff Awards Dinner.
