Rebekah Ashley, J.D.

Senior Administrative Director for Executive Administration

Rebekah Ashley, J.D., serves as senior administrative director for executive administration in the Medical School.

She is responsible for leading, overseeing, and collaborating with departments, centers, and institutes to support a number of operational, cultural, and strategic initiatives within the Medical School. As senior director, she has primary responsibilities in the areas of Medical School Administration operations, strategic human resources, and select major initiatives oversight.  

With a background in human resources, faculty affairs, diversity, equity and inclusion, and employment law, she brings more than 15 years of higher education experience to the Medical School. She actively leads and participates in Michigan Medicine and cross-campus committees focused on employee engagement and leadership. 

She earned her B.S. from Eastern Michigan University and J.D. from the University of Detroit Mercy School of law. 

She began her University of Michigan career in 2004 and has served in multiple strategic roles within U-M, including chief diversity officer, director of human resources, and associate director of academic human resources for the U-M Office of Research, the Office of the Provost and Academic Human Resources, respectively. She served as the Medical School’s interim academic chief of staff from February 2021 to June 2022.

Prior to joining the U-M she practiced law in both legal aid and private practice settings.
