General Description
The Infectious Diseases PGY2 residency program at the University of Michigan Health provides a balanced training program focused on patient care, clinical research and teaching. The program offers the opportunity to receive mentoring from 3 adult ID pharmacists, 2 pediatric ID pharmacists and 2 tenure track faculty ID pharmacists.
Program Purpose
The goal of the program is to develop a well-rounded clinical ID pharmacist with experience in treating a variety of patient populations. Additionally, the emphasis on didactic teaching and clinical outcomes research provide exceptional training for residents to enhance their skills as a clinical specialist, or pursue a non-tenure track faculty position.

Research and Publications Opportunity
Through the research and writing requirements of the program, all residents have the potential to produce at least two manuscripts suitable for peer-reviewed publication by the end of the residency. Additionally, the ID resident typically has the opportunity to collaborate on additional publications (research or review articles), and most residents have multiple publications.
Teaching Opportunity
Residents will receive a faculty appointment as Adjunct Clinical Instructor with the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy, and are required to complete a longitudinal rotation in didactic teaching for the Pharmacotherapy Course for P3 students, which includes the Infectious Diseases section of therapeutics. Additionally, the ID resident will have the opportunity to teach in several other classes and gain experience in didactic lectures, small group classes, and team based learning. The resident will be expected to co-precept P4 students on rotation.

Program Assessment Strategy
The program is structured in accordance with the ASHP Accreditation Standards and ASHP Educational Outcomes, Goals, and Objectives for a PGY1 Pharmacy and PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration residency and utilizes the Residency Learning System model. This program has a four-part assessment strategy of learning experiences: resident evaluation of learning experience, resident evaluation of preceptor, resident self-evaluation, and preceptor evaluation of the resident’s performance during the learning experience.
