Biography

Dr. Zvi Kresch is a Michigan-native and obtained a BA in World Religions from the University of Michigan. Prior to medical school, he spent 13 months working in Ethiopia with the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. Dr. Kresch served as the assistant director of a primary care clinic, taught English at a local college to girls from the very rural parts of Ethiopia, and volunteered at Mother Teresa’s Mission for the Destitute and Dying.

Dr. Kresch attended Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. He completed a transitional year at Oakwood Hospital before moving to West Virginia for his ophthalmology residency. After residency, Dr. Kresch undertook a uveitis and ocular immunology fellowship at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. Following this, Dr. Kresch and his wife spent a year working abroad with the Himalayan Cataract Project (www.cureblindness.org) in Nepal, India, Ghana and Ethiopia. During that year, Dr. Kresch worked with local ophthalmologists on clinical management and surgical techniques. It was there that he gained extensive exposure to manual small incision cataract surgery (MSICS)  and performed hundreds of these surgeries. In 2014, Dr. Kresch and his wife moved to Ann Arbor to join the Kellogg Eye Center. Dr. Kresch has continued his strong interest in education by supervising ophthalmology residents in clinic and surgery. He also continues his international work, having recently made trips to Ethiopia and Peru to train local ophthalmic surgeons.

Dr. Kresch loves exploring the great State of Michigan with his wife and family. He also enjoys playing chess and harmonica and making his own fermented foods.
