Warren Pan, MD, MPhil, PhD, a PGY-1 resident physician, will spend his Knights Templar Eye Foundation career-starter grant to study the pharmacologic activation of PKM2 for photoreceptor neuroprotection in inherited retinal diseases.
"These children typically become blind during childhood. Vision is important, and to not have any of it so young is particularly devastating," he said.
Knights Templar Eye Foundation supports clinical and basic researchers committed to the understanding, prevention and cure of sight-threatening diseases in infants and children.
