Biography

Graduate School: University of Navarra

Medical School: University of Navarra

I grew up in a tiny but lively town in northern Spain. My grandmother’s Alzheimer disease and a strong curiosity for science brought me to medical school in Pamplona, Hemingway’s favorite Spanish city. I always choose the hard way so after residency I pursued a PhD in neuroscience. Afterwards, I jumped at the chance to move to New York City where I continued growing as a nerdy neuroscientist and met my loving wife. There are now too many reasons to stay in the US. The University of Michigan allows me to combine my two passions, patient care and pain research. The learning environment has exceeded my expectations.

Fun fact: In middle school I won a meatball eating contest, and did not throw up!
