Resident Wellness

The Neurology Residency Program is committed to promoting the holistic well-being of its residents and actively strives to support resident families to foster a feeling of community and connection within the program.

  • Well-Being Coaching Initiative. In an effort to diminish barriers to accessing mental health resources, each resident has a pre-assigned confidential coaching session with a licensed psychologist at the Office of Counseling and Workplace Resilience. This session serves as a check-in, but also gives time to discuss any concerns the resident may have, strengths/weaknesses, and goals for their personal and/or professional lives. They are allowed to opt-out, reschedule, or schedule additional sessions at any time.
  • Wellness Wednesdays: Once monthly noon conference sessions led by residents to help guide interns through the transition to residency. Themes and activities relate to burnout prevention, communication with difficult patients, diversity in medicine, healthcare disparities, finding joy in our work, humor, sharing stories about family, meditation, music, and painting.
  • Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Support: Awareness made through multiple conferences throughout the year.
  • Office of Counseling and Workplace Resilience: The Office of Counseling and Workplace Resilience serves the mental and emotional health needs of Michigan Medicine faculty and staff.
