Areas of Interest
My primary research interests lie in cardiovascular physiology and disease. As a graduate student, my studies in the Beard lab have focused on the relationship between cardiac metabolism and cardiac mechanical function. These studies make use of an animal model (transverse aortic constriction rat) and a number of metabolic and metabolomics assays that I established in the Beard lab. We are using data from these studies to inform computer models of cardiac mechanics and energetics, to help us understand how mechanical load affects energy metabolism and how metabolic state affects mechanical function.
