Finding causes and effective treatments to slow progression and prevent the development of diabetic kidney disease.

Dr. Nelson is an epidemiologist who has conducted studies of type 2 diabetes and its complications in the Pima Indians since 1986.  His research focuses primarily on the epidemiology of diabetic kidney disease in type 2 diabetes, and his areas of special interest include the natural history, genetic and environmental determinants, pathophysiology, and treatment of diabetic kidney disease.
