VOTE! It's March Madness, Science Style!

A study that Dr. Eva Feldman contributed to was chosen for the Stat Madness tournament, braketology science style.  We need you to vote by Tuesday, March 7 to make it to the next round.  Published in Diabetes, Care, the paper sheds light on why people with diabetes make up 40% of hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

From the Michigan Medicine news release by Kara Gavin:

"The bracket is set. The teams are ready. The title is on the line. And the Wolverines are looking strong.

Now it’s up to University of Michigan fans to make the difference by voting in a fun national tournament of science.

Four research teams, all led by researchers from Michigan Medicine, have been picked for the STAT Madness tournament, run by the STAT health news organization.

Starting today, until Tuesday night, March 7, the U-M entries need as many votes as possible to help them defeat their opponents from other research universities and institutes to advance to the next round. Each team in the bracket is represented by a paper they published in 2022.

Wolverines won the tournament in 2019, and have made it far in other years."

Dr. Eva Feldman contributed to the research on COVID & diabetes, which was published in Diabetes Care and chosen for this year's tournament.  The study led by Drs. Salim Hayek, Medical Director of the Frankel Cardiovascular Center Clinics, and Rodica Pop-Busui, Larry D. Soderquist Professor of Diabetes, investigated why patients with diabetes faced more severe outcomes if they contract COVID-19.
