The Division of Hematology and Oncology is a vibrant and continuously growing division within the Department of Internal Medicine. The division is made up of over 90 research and clinical faculty, 84 laboratory research staff, and 37 dedicated administrative staff, making us the largest subspecialty unit within the Department of Internal Medicine.
Our patients are cared for by a multidisciplinary team of experts in their fields and we have several inpatient and outpatient clinic locations in which to care for them. Our inpatient clinical services are located at the University Hospital and at the C.S. Mott Children’s and Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital, while our outpatient services take place at the Rogel Cancer Center, Canton Health Center, C.S. Mott Children’s and Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital, Northville Health Center, and the Veterans Affairs Ann Arbor Healthcare System.
Our combined three-year Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Training Program allows trainees the opportunity to complete 18 months of clinical experience in hematology and medical oncology, incorporating both inpatient and outpatient experiences. The remainder of the time is spent in independent research, under either the basic science research track or the clinical investigators track.
The diverse composition of our faculty creates wonderful mentorship opportunities for our fellows across multiple disciplines and disease areas. We work with our trainees to ensure they have a strong mentorship team that will be highly committed to providing guidance for both research and career development.
Our faculty have numerous and varied research interests, ranging from bench to bedside research, from basic laboratory experiments to conducting experimental clinical treatments. Our research programs are just as collaborative as our clinical programs, with our faculty working closely with faculty from multiple disciplines, all working towards the common goal of providing better treatment and care options for patients with cancer and hematologic disorders. Our division has been very successful in obtaining numerous awards and grants to support this goal.
We are extremely proud of our accomplishments in the areas of patient care, education, and research; and look forward to many more in the future.
