Biography
Hello! My name is Saaranga Sasitharan, and I am from Vancouver, British Columbia. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of British Columbia and went on to pursue a Master of Health Administration degree there shortly after. I then completed my medical training at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. I love family medicine as it places an emphasis on immersing oneself into a community, learning deeply about our patients, then leading collaboration to deliver high quality patient care. I see family medicine as the best way to serve a community as we witness first hand how socioeconomic factors and cultural influences greatly affect quality of life, and are therefore well positioned to serve as advocates for our patients. Family medicine was the best fit for me to integrate both my passion for health policy & advocacy with broad-spectrum care, especially for underserved and marginalized communities. I am a University of Michigan Family Medicine Resident at the Ypsilanti Health Center. I was drawn to the U-M Family Medicine program for so many reasons, as I knew I would be afforded world class broad-spectrum training, research opportunities and most importantly, I would be surrounded by residents, faculty and staff that have the same goals of providing quality patient and public health centered care to our patients. I feel very fortunate to be a part of this amazing team. In my free time, I love spending time with family and friends, taking dance lessons, going for peaceful nature walks, catching up on true-crime documentaries & reality tv-shows, and exploring new restaurants in Ann Arbor and Detroit.
