Biography

 Dr. Somand is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine and the Associate Service Chief for the Department of Emergency Medicine. He is a true Michigan “lifer”, with undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Michigan, and having completed residency training at UMHS, where he served as chief resident. In the Department, he serves as the Quality Lead, chairing the Peer Review committee and acting as the main faculty liaison with the Office of Patient Safety.  Institutionally, he serves on the Medical Staff Quality Committee and sits on the Executive Committee for Clinical Affairs.  He has a leadership role in the MiPart initiative, and has been involved in the multidisciplinary development of multiple institutional clinical practice guidelines. He also serves as co-director for the Healthcare Administration Scholars Program. Academic interests include quality improvement, physician quality metrics, and ED throughput and flow.
