Biography
Dr. Persky is a board-certified specialist in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, and Hospice & Palliative Medicine at the University of Michigan Health System. For many years, Dr. Persky has been active in the training and supervision of physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, physical therapists and other licensed health professionals to provide effective multidisciplinary health care to the elderly.
Dr. Persky graduated from the University of Illinois Medical School in Chicago in 1981 and subsequently completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Colorado in Denver. He went on to complete a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine and a Master's of Public Health at the University of Michigan. Dr. Persky then completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan Institute of Gerontology focused on the impact of specific disease processes on the life expectancy of elderly individuals and the role of psychosocial factors on their health behaviors. Dr. Persky has been on the faculty of the University of Michigan Medical School since 1987.
Dr. Persky has a special interest in the care of patients with dementia, the treatment of pressure ulcers, the prevention of falls and integrating the assessment of patient life expectancy into clinical practice. During his free time he enjoys photography and good food.

Research Interests: Dr. Persky’s research and teaching interests focus on helping physicians strengthen their clinical and organizational skills in long term care settings such as nursing homes and sub-acute rehab settings. Determining the life expectancy of elderly patients with multiple co-morbidities and incorporating this information into clinical practice is also an area of special interest and expertise. In addition, the role of the physician in multi-disciplinary settings such as long term care is another focus of Dr. Persky’s research, quality assurance and teaching activities.
