Dissertation Title

Genetic discovery and precision medicine in cardiovascular diseases using electronic health record-linked biobanks

Research Interests

Brooke implemented a statistical method to aid in case/control association analysis of large cohorts and biobanks such as Norway’s Nord Trondelag Health Study (HUNT). Based on recent work by Liu et al (Nature Gen, 2017), it is known that first degree unaffected relatives of cases can be used as proxy-cases in cohorts where cases are not available. In HUNT we have cases and proxy-cases for several traits including Type 2 diabetes and myocardial infarction, and we are testing various methods of accounting for proxy-cases to increase statistical power to detect novel loci.
